January ’20 Happenings

The beginning of 2020 came as a sigh of relief where I recuperated from our trip last month as well as started to look towards the future of this year.  This month was spent in planning for coming months, some new project ideas, and appreciating the improved health condition.  Let me share with you my favorite happenings during this month.

1. 33 years

On the fifth day of 2020, I entered the 33rd year of my life alhumdulillah.  Me and Hamza went to a newly discovered Korean restaurant in town and it. did. not. disappoint.  My concern for any restaurant visit is the food.  I was pleased to find entrees suitable for my food sensitivities that were delicious without causing any surprise reactions.  That is always great news in my book.

Also, we headed to Nektar juice bar for a their ice cream, called skoop, and learned that their distributor was having some issues until further notice.  That was a bit of a bummer since that is the only ice cream I can have in town.  However, I ordered a pitaya bowl instead which was a suitable replacement.  Afterwards, we headed to a new grocery store (this photo was taken right in front of it) where I spent a few extra minutes with their plant selection. Worth it.

It was a good day to reflect back on the years of my life, draw some lessons, reflect on the current condition and plan for the future.  Alhumdulillah that I was able to spend it with my best friend.

2. Organized Office

This was a major highlight because look at it! The entire project took quite a number of days but it was 99% planned and executed by yours truly.  I felt like a wood worker, a carpenter, and just an overall boss lady while tackling this.  The video of the entire ordeal will be coming up next week Friday insha'Allah.  The following link will be live once it is published on YouTube: Organizing the Office.

It was such an ordeal to even make this happen! I originally wanted it to be on a different wall, custom made by a carpenter.  After getting ghosted by several businesses (I still can not believe that happened), I decided to take matters into my own hands since a functioning office was a necessity.  After quite a bit of planning, I decided to head to Ikea for some billy bookcases to keep the budget under control and then to a local wood shop to get the shelves made of maple wood, custom sized to hold all of the books.

As annoying as the entire process was, the end result was satisfying and much more cost effective than my original plan. Alhumdulillah for that!

3. Good News for the Thyroid

I am beyond excited, grateful to Allah ﷻ, and happy to share that my first blood test after starting Naturopathic medicine came back to stellar results!  I was already feeling a thousand times better and my blood work showed it. The antibodies were almost reduced by half and my TSH levels were looking so much better.  Seeing those test results was also validating to me as chronic illness can sometimes cause one to doubt herself especially when the doctors refuse to look any deeper. Alhumdulillah this is a giant step towards the right direction for my Hashimoto's Disease.

That's it! Just three favorite things happened this month and I am so grateful for each and every one of them as they were monumental in their own special way.

January:  I liked you! Please share your good news with February too so that we can keep this upward trend moving insha'Allah.
